What is a computer vision?

Technique to provide computers the ability to see and understand images.

These days, it has applications in all industries and sectors.

ex) enormous impact on automative, manufacturing, human resources, insurance, and health care...

Applications of computer vision

Ex1) pictures of electric tower

Computer vision allows to cut up the images into a grid of smaller images.

Then, classify the metal and nonmetal structure + another classifier to determine the level of rust

Have you ever watched a video of AI dancing? (Deepfake)

It is a technique of computer vision which translates image to image!!

*Besides the AI dancing video, it could be an image translation of winter to spring, horse to zebra, Monet to photo*

ex) Use computer vision to recognize different food

Some problems that had solved with computer vision

Medicine: training doctors accurately detect cancer takes years of education and experience

Security: 1. looking for suspect across days of surveillance footage takes time and is unscalable

2. detecting dangerous goods in X-rays at the airport

Driving: requires constant focused visual attention and accidents can be life-threatening

The benefits came after using computer vision

Manufacturing: employees not using safety helmets of equipment despite strict regulations.
Insurance: calculating cost of damages from photos of accidents
